A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF Petworth House ANd Park

Petworth House, a Grade I listed mansion, traces its origins back to the late 17th century when it was rebuilt by Charles Seymour, the 6th Duke of Somerset. However, its history predates even this reconstruction, with evidence of a medieval manor on the site. Over the centuries, Petworth has been home to prominent figures of English nobility, each leaving their mark on the estate.

The house serves as a gallery of timeless masterpieces, offering visitors the opportunity to admire exquisite paintings, sculptures, and furnishings as they wander through its opulent rooms.

Capability Brown’s Landscape

Beyond the walls of the mansion lies Petworth Park, a sprawling landscape designed by the famed landscape architect Lancelot “Capability” Brown in the 18th century.
